Just about every American has something they wish they could improve. Some wish to be taller, shorter, funnier, or richer to name a few. However there is a fine line between wanting to change something and low self esteem. People who suffer from low self esteem have a negative view of themselves, others, lack self confidence and perform poorly. It is difficult to measure the amount of people suffering from low self esteem as it usually is related to other emotional difficulties.
According to NCES.edu.gov, study habit amount grade levels are increasing. About 12% of 4th graders spend at least one hour a day studying, while that number increased to 37% for 12th graders. However that still leaves 63% of 12th graders not studying consistently. In Oregon alone, the drop out rate is 4.1%, which are roughly 7,400 students who dropped out during the 2006/2007 school year according to the Oregon Department of Education. Oregon rates are down from previous years however the National Education Association (NEA.Org) reports the national drop out rate is still high at 68% in 2006.
Many people have suffered through painful past experiences of physical or mental abuse, failure, or cruelty by others. They are held prisoner by these events, allowing the past to chip away at their minds and bodies. Limited by their personal conflicts, they are blind to the great possibilities of their own lives.
Unfortunately, stress is a part of life and can”t be completely avoided. In fact, it’’s said that a little bit of stress is good for our well-being, and exercises our faculties. However too much stress can cause serious damage to our physical and mental health.
Knowing what I was fighting against made me understand how Satan uses life to make us worry so much that we stop loving. Worry can take away our joy and keep us focused on our problems.
